The Rights at Work Campaign

In March 2006 the Howard Government introduced ‘WorkChoices’ a set of laws that stripped away the rights at work of ordinary Australians and tipped the balance in favour of big business.

Australians didn’t vote for these laws and early on ordinary workers and their families joined forces with the union movement in the fight to protect rights at work.

As soon as the laws were introduced we began to see just how bad Howard’s laws would be.

WorkChoices took away basic award conditions, removed job security and introduced AWA individual contracts that forced some Australian workers to take an immediate pay cut – and this is just the beginning.

As ordinary workers suffered the Federal Government simply ignored their concerns and dismissed union efforts to inform voters as a scare campaign.

Meanwhile real people have been out there on the ground, talking to their friends, family and workmates through the Your Rights At Work campaign and together we have made a real difference.

In New South Wales alone, there are 44 local Rights at Work committees operating- ordinary workers, mums and dads, who have committed to supporting victims of WorkChoices in their communities and campaigning to win back rights at work.

The Your Rights At Work bus has taken the message out to regional Australia for 3 years running - supporting local efforts to have these laws and this government voted out.

We are now at three-quarter time - we have to regroup and get ready for the final push to election day and we need your help.

Every conversation you have, every interaction with a community group and every day from here on in counts.

Please sign up to the campaign today to win back your rights at work.
